Q. What is the difference between a regular cake and a sponge cake?
A. Sponge cake is meant to have a flavored simple syrup soaked into it to help add moisture and flavor to the cake. Regular cake generally does not have an extra syrup soaked into it. Both are always great tasting cakes.
Q. What is the difference in all the fillings?
A. Here at dk cakes we like to offer a wide range of selections so you can have the best tasting cake possible for your event. Here’s a few quick descriptions of each filling:
- Buttercream: We use either Swiss or Italian buttercreams to cover all our cakes, however, buttercream is also a very popular filling for the inside of the cake. Buttercreams are a mixture of eggs, sugar, and butter.
- Pastry creams: This is actually a custard similar to pudding. One of my personal favorites.
- Ganaches: A mixture of cream and chocolate that can be flavored with other foods. Ganaches allow for a rich filling which can really make a light cake taste great.
- Mousses/Bavarians: These two items are similar however, mousses are lightened with a meringue and Bavarians are lightened with a whipped cream. They can be rich or light but always smooth on the tongue. A fruit Bavarian is a great way to offset the richness of a buttercream.
Q. I can’t decide on what flavors go best together, can DK CAKES help?
A. It is our pleasure to help a customer decide what flavors work best together. We always encourage offering multiple flavors for your guest. And if you don’t feel like mixing and matching flavors we can always help you put together traditional flavors like chocolate and peanut butter or a good marble cake. Yum!!
Q. How many flavors can we pick?
A. You can pick how many flavors you want. It’s your cake and your event, always keep it special!

Our cakes are four layers of cake with three layer of filling.
